The body is malleable cast iron, painted against rust, and the drop forged jaws are differentially hardened: 40–45 HRC on the jaw body and above 50 HRC on the teeth, blackodised for protection. Holes in the base allow frame mounting. Generally conforming to IS 6007-1971.
